Arnamagnæan codex (
The Arnamagnæan Manuscript Collection) (
Danish:
Den Arnamagnæanske Håndskriftsamling,
Icelandic Handritasafn Árna Magnússonar) is the collection of
manuscripts assembled by
Árni Magnússon (
1663-
1730).
He was an
Icelander who was a professor at the
University of Copenhagen, which was the only university for
Denmark,
Norway and
Iceland at that time. He was a passionate scholar of Icelandic and Scandinavian history and created the by-far-largest collection of Icelandic MSs.
As of 2007, the Arnamagnæan Manuscript Collection is the property of the Copenhagen University Library with the
Arnamagnæan commission being the administrative body and the
Arnamagnæan Collection the studies institute which also houses the collection.
